Technology should be more closely integrated into the K-12 experience. I used the Internet or computers in general to facilitate my college search process The institution's level of commitment to technology was one of the deciding factors when I selected my college or university Were I now to redo my college search, I would be certain that the institution's commitment to technology would play a greater role in my decision. My institution is committed to providing me with the technological skills and expertise I need to compete with my peers in the years to come. I store papers written for class on a folder or hard drive on the campus network. I know how to create a new folder on the network. Lectures can be effectively presented as printed lecture notes, on a web page or as audio or video tapes. This statement ought to apply to technological skills as well as academic skills. Technology will be an essential part of the world in the near future, irrespective of its bearing on my future profession. Technology will be an essential part of my job in this world. I would like to be able to take classes at other nearby colleges if my schedule permitted. Every classroom should have a computer. Institutions need to provide cutting edge facilities for students. Have you ever searched a remote libraries' computerized catalogs through the Internet? I would value having several outside speakers lecture in class. It is better to have an adequate facility and superb support or a superb facility and adequate support. I would value having several outside speakers lecture in class through an interactive, two-way video conferencing system. Every classroom should have a computer for every student. Students ought to be expected to work closely with computers in at least some of their classes to produce work which makes extensive use of technology. Each student ought to own a computer, or have a computer readily available for use. Overall, I have had positive experiences when my professors brought technology into the curriculum. My professors know enough about technology to effectively use it in the classroom. I am often intimidated by large groups and prefer to do my work in small groups or alone I have in the past not contributed something to a classroom discussion because I was not certain how responsive the other students would be. Frequent interpersonal contact with the instructor in my classes is very important to my learning the material. I can see myself being more comfortable contributing to ongoing class discussions if I had the ability to contribute to class discussions anonymously. Do you think that most of your real learning occurs when you are taking notes in class, or when you are outside of class, perhaps talking with the professor or other students? I feel that work was done equally, all members contributing to the best of their ability. When you work in groups do you find that you are more productive or less productive? Do you think that computers ought to teach you how to do things, serving as the "endlessly patient teacher, "or should they be used as tools to facilitate learning, a means of gathering information to learn more about the subject? If you had to choose, which would be better? An education that taught you about yourself and how to apply your personal skills to the world, or one that taught you how best to meet societies expectations of the roles that you may eventually assume? When I sit down at a computer, I progress with an intuitive sense of what will follow. Even if I am unfamiliar with the program, I still forge ahead with an understanding of how the program should work. If you disagree, do you feel more comfortable with yourself if you have rules or a manual to serve as your guide? Have you ever been in a chat room of any kind on the Internet or an online service? Have you ever had any sort of relationship on the Internet with another individual? This does not necessarily imply that it was a romantic relationship, even a cursory friendship would suffice. If yes, was this a strong relationship, or at least as strong as any of your current face to face relationships? Did you maintain an online handle or identity? Computers will fundamentally change the way we as a society think about ourselves. Computers and such technology will or already have caused me to change how I think of myself or what I will become. The pace of technological invention will continue to accelerate. Technologies that today seem fantastical or only possible on Star Trek will eventually be made available to everyone I prefer short, 15-20 minute lectures over hour-long lecture sessions. People who spend many hours online are socially at a disadvantage when it comes time to interact face to face with people.
