Staff Salaries and Development

    Current Status Critical Needs Long Range Goals
         
1 Compensation: staff compensation attracts individuals with skill and experience to meet institutional needs Staff salaries are below CLAC averages Technical and support positions must have higher salary scale Regular analysis of peer institutions salary scales
         
2 Promotions: opportunities for promotions and growth in salary motivate staff and improve retention Cost of living increases have been regular; some promotions occurred in 1995 Several staff lines must be reclassified; reorganize ICS departmental structure to improve service, communication, productivity Emphasize career growth; promote from within when possible
         
3 Professional development: information technology staff attend conferences and seminars in their fields on a regular basis and contribute original work at these events. Approx. 40% of staff attend conferences on a regular basis; approx. 20% contribute Increased funding for staff participation in conferences and seminars Professional development becomes part of annual performance review; internal development opportunities
         
4 Periodicals: The college community has access to professional periodicals, both printed and on-line, in the information resources fields. A broad range of periodicals are received and made available to staff and clients; web sources are publicized Increased access to CDROM and web-based information resources Subscriptions to strategic information digests such as Gartner Group
         
5 Staff currency: all information resources personnel have the means for continuous training to stay abreast of technology and usage. Staff training is not continuous; funding is limiting factor Increased funding for staff training to remain current with technological advances needed by campus Specific R & D facility and time allocated to exploration and testing on behalf of clients
